The walking route starts from Ayr Rail Station and leaves the city centre to pick up a series of pleasant, wide, residential streets to arrive at Alloway town and the Burns Cottage. After visiting the Cottage, a footpath, The Poet’s Path, leads to the main Robert Burns Birthplace Museum with the nearby attractions of Alloway Old Kirk and the bridge, famous from the Burns poem "Tam o’ Shanter".
