Bin of Huntly forest -Ruthven- Balloch forest - Keith
moderate
Distance 17.7 km
Developed from the Balloch - Huntly horse trail. We started at Keith, took the bus to the Bin of Huntly Woodland Walks off the A96, then walked back. Most of the walk follows the horse trail with an additional bit at the end through Dunnyduff woods with the Falls of Tarnash and into Keith. Most of the route is on forest track. There is a straight bit through long grass (in July), which could be pretty wet going if it had been raining. There a short sections of tarmac: through Ruthven and after leaving Balloch forest.
The routes within the Bin of Huntly and Balloch forests could be altered using alternative waymarked routes perhaps via the top of the Balloch to get a view north
