The walk starts in the village centre of Billinge and quickly reaches the open countryside surrounding the lump of Billinge Hill. The route follows the path along the low ridge giving fine views to the east of the West Pennine Moors and to the west ,over the Lancashire plain towards Liverpool and Southport. On clear days Blackpool Tower can be seen and way out west the North Wales Mountains.
A gradual descent to the west brings you out past the biblically named Promised Land farm and 2 (so far) wind turbines. The route then passes through wood plantations ,part of the Mersey Forest.
The landscape flattens out as you proceed passing remote farms to reach the Kings Moss . This has been the site of a vast landfill ,but nature has taken its course and now all is grasslands and woodland . Shortly after this stretch a welcome break can be had at The Fir Tree Farm ,tuck into some rustic fayre and have a drink before the final stretch,
The route then follows a path through some more of the Mersey Forest before heading across field paths through tranquil unspoilt countryside to reach Red Barn Road . This quiet cul de sac passes a horse training paddock before reaching the main road into Billinge. A short few steps bring you to a quiet road and a path which leads you back to Beacon Road and the car park.
The walk may be shortened to 5 miles by following the route from point 7 to point 14
