A circular walk to the north of Beaconsfield, a modification of a Time Out Country Walks route
moderate
Distance 17.6 km
This walk has been taken from Time Out Country Walks Volume 1. It was originally plotted by Geoff Nicholson, who shared it with the Way Walkers.
The plotted route was modified bythe author by reference to the footpaths shown on Open Street maps and with a finish directly to the station platform for trains for London. HI have also chosen to take the line near Seer Green along a right of way that cuts off the Youth Hostel and a short section on a road. This line shortens the whole walk by a few metres. The route has been further updated after completing it in company of The Trainmaster. Key areas of difficulty were (a) a large construction site just outside Beaconsfield, requiring a long temporary diversion and (b) inside Hodgemoor Wood, where tracks marked on the OS map had gone and several others had appeared. OpenStreet map is closer to matching what is on the ground. Closer... but not 100%
Most of this route is within woodland and agricultural land. In its middle third the line follows the River Misbourne. Views throughout are often hidden by trees. Revisiting the woods to see the changing seasons would be worthwhile.
Highlights are the walk along the meadow near the river and the delightful centre of Chalfont St Giles.
Although one is only 40 minutes from central London by train, the day is deeply rural outside Beaconsfield.
