Stanford Le Hope to Hoo St Werburg via East Tilbury, Tilbury, Gravesend, Cliffe Fort, Cliffe, Cooling.
Early dangerous lanes into East Tilbury and then sea wall, ferry and pick up Saxon Shore Way along roads, back alleys, and a very muddy sea wall, fields, lanes and more fields.
Saxon Shore Way
A very busy and rather dangerous lane runs into East Tilbury before arriving at the sea wall alongside former industry and a redundant power station. Note - there may be an option to walk through Mucking and East Tilbury Marshes rather than along the road to East Tilbury but OS maps do not clarify whether paths are accessible rights of way. Take the all year round foot passenger ferry across to Gravesend and pick up the waymarked Saxon Shore Way through the back alleys and out onto a very soggy sea wall towards Cliffe Fort. Then duck inland following a good track skirting the Isle of Grain to Cliffe and onwards across numerous very muddy fields between hamlets and villages.
My Rating: **
