Hullbridge to Shoeburyness via Ashingdon, Canewdon, Paglesham, Little Wakering.
Sea bank (closed after 0.5 miles), lanes and roads to Canewdon. Pick up Roach Valley Way to Paglesham before convoluted combination of lanes and muddy paths to Little Wakering. Pavement to Shoeburyness.
Roach Valley Way
This route intended to follow the sea bank again but was thwarted after 0.5 miles due to a closure by the Environment Agency. It therefore heads inland and picks up the roads to Canewdon. Trying to get back riverside could be possible but with far too many 'private' signs I didn't manage it. Pick up the Roach Valley Way for a very muddy walk across fields and around dykes to pretty Paglesham. From there it is a strange route comprising lanes and plenty of muddy paths and fields to Little Wakering. Pavement walking finishes the day and if it is wet it is likely that muddy attire will look a bit alien in the suburbs. Ultimately I wasn't happy with this route as I felt it missed a few riverside sections. However, with restricted access and a confusing series of unconnected paths on the map it may well be the best route around this part of Essex.
