Runswick Bay to Ravenscar via Sandsend, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Boggle Hole.
Descend steep lanes into Runswick Bay for a brief beach walk then it's up steep steps out and over the cliffs. Drop back at Sandsend and follow the roads up and down into Whitby. Steep steps up to Abbey and then cliff top with plenty of ups and downs through the streets of Robin Hood's Bay and the hidden wooded cove at Boggle Hole. Long slow climb up to Ravenscar to end.
Cleveland Way
Plenty of ascent in this walk but it starts with a steep descent into Runswick Bay quickly followed by some steep steps from the beach back up to the cliff top. The cliffs end briefly at Sandsend to follow the road over another hill and down into the charming streets of visitor heavy Whitby. Once around the harbour (stop for kippers and Dracula) it is up steep steps to the Abbey and out onto the cliffs again for plenty of ups and downs via Robin Hood's Bay and a few charming landmarks such as Boggle Hole. A long slow climb ends the day at Ravenscar for one of my top 20 coast walks through stunning North Yorkshire scenery with historic towns and villages. This walk is a must for anyone walking in North Yorks and could easily be split into two days for an extended visit to Whitby.
