Inverboyndie to Rosehearty via Banff, Macduff, Gardenstown, Crovie, Pennan. 3*
difficult
Distance 37.5 km
Inverboyndie to Rosehearty via Banff, Macduff, Gardenstown, Crovie, Pennan.
Lanes and roads to Gardenstown. Cliff bottom path to Crovie then up the lane to cross over the hill to rejoin the lanes to Pennan. Down into the village and an unmarked path up over the cliff across country to rejoin lanes into Rosehearty.
No Marked trail
There is no formal coast path but a huge potential to make one. So lanes and roads dominate early on and a lovely part of the coastline can be easily missed if you don't visit the settlements. I missed a path down to Gardenstown via Seatown and a cliff base path to Crovie isn't marked on OS maps but is definitely worth using if the weather is good. Crovie and Pennan are delightful villages with Pennan worth a visit for fans of the 1980's movie 'Local Hero'. A lovely path up the cliff from Pennan (again not marked on OS maps) travels across country back to the lanes down into Rosehearty. Note: A path back to hug the coast may be an available option from Quarryburn - again it is not marked on an OS map and I did not walk it as I couldn't be sure. Roadside pavement to end the day. NB: The campsite marked on the OS map in Rosehearty no longer exists. There are plenty of options to improve this route and I would do it very differently if I did it again. I have devised another route and published it separately.
My Rank ***
