Stage 17 of ‘O Fôn i Fynwy’, an end to end walk across Wales
moderate
Distance 13.1 km
The beginning of this section, through beautiful deciduous woodland alongside the tumbling Nant Gwernol, is an absolute delight. Beyond the former Bryn Eglwys Quarry, the path deteriorates significantly, however, and we may have to negotiate some wet and muddy patches before we reach the beautiful old packhorse bridge of Pont Llaeron. There’s the option of a detour to the summit of Tarren y Gesail, but the main route descends directly through forestry to Machynlleth.
