Embo to Tarbat Ness via Dornoch, Dornoch Firth Bridge, Morangie, Tain, Portmahomack.
Beach and links start then 17 miles of lane and A9 over Dornoch Forth Bridge. Lanes inland around MoD range. Harbour village of Portmahomack. Poorly marked coast path with numerous barbed and electrified fences. Brief lane to end at lighthouse.
No Marked Trail
A lovely start along the beach and links around Royal Dornoch Golf Course before dipping inland around the streets of pretty Dornoch for 17 miles of road walking. Over the Dornoch Forth Bridge the lanes skirt the bombing range in the estuary and emerge at Portmahomack with a very picturesque harbour. From here follow the coast path sign to Tarbat Ness. It is about the only sign and the path is very poorly marked through a patchwork of fields. This route takes you across a maze of barbed wire and electrified fences - worth testing every fence before crossing (I used my trekking pole to do so). A brief walled lane ends at the lighthouse car park.
My Rank **
