Cargo to Ruthwell via Rockcliffe, Gretna, Eastriggs, Dornock, Annan, Powfoot.
Lanes and fields lead to walk alongside M6 to cross the River Esk. Roadside across the River Sark and into Scotland and Gretna. Dangerous roads and verge hopping to Annan. Coast opens out and down to Powfoot for a couple of small sandy beaches before returning to lanes to Ruthwell.
No Marked Trail from Gretna.
Pleasant lanes and fields before the noise of the motorway and roadside walking for much of the day. Gretna is a compulsory stop for marking a cross into Scotland. My route then took me alongside a reasonably busy road to Annan (a lovely town). Verge hopping is not fun. After Annan a couple of small beaches and quiet lanes finish the day nicely.
