I found a brand new section of England Coast Path to try around a headland cliff top walk to Workington. Tarmac cycleway to Maryport then promenade, beach / shingle to Mawbray and cross country / lanes to end.

After a brief headland walk I couldn't find the OS marked coast path out of Workington, it looked as if it had been replaced by a new route. Many of the ECP signs will probably replace or update the existing footpath signs if they exist. When they make new routes hopefully they won't just daub tarmac down. The cycleway to Maryport was just that. I crossed under the railway to find an alternative old unmade track running parallel to the new black strip just to ease my feet. Beach and shingle to Mawbray was a relief before dipping inland for fields and lanes to Abbeytown.
