Portloe to Maenporth via Carne, Portscatho, St Mawes, Falmouth, Pendennis Point.
Cliff tops, beaches and the lovely fascinating town of Falmouth. If this route is followed to the Carrick Road Ferry (all year round) there is some dangerous road walking down to St Mawes.
SW Coast Path:
Generally I found this to be a grand day with one small nasty little road walk down to St Mawes. Falmouth is one of my favourite coastal towns in the UK and seems relatively unspoilt by the dominance of out of town shopping complexes. To get there I used the Carrick Road Ferry but the King Harry Ferry can also be used as another all year round but much longer alternative. For summer months the formal SWCP route goes around St Anthony Head and uses the Place Ferry to connect with the Carrick Road Ferry. This would be a similar distance and probably much nicer than walking alongside roads but didn't work for me and my rules. It is disappointing that the SWCP does not seem to have a formal route to cater for walking in the winter months.
My Rank ****
