Salcombe to Mothercombe via Bolberry Down, Hope Bay, Thurlestone, Aveton Gifford, Bigbury on Sea, Womwell
An early steep climb up Bolberry Down and expect a plethora of SWCP diversions again. Many were not signposted from the East when I did this walk (hopefully corrected since). Avon Estuary Walk partly used up to Aveton Gifford so lane walking more prevalent.
SW Coast Path
Avon Estuary Walk
Plenty of ascent on this walk (expect over 5,000 ft) and it is a long haul too at over 23 miles - hence the very hard difficulty. The Avon Estuary Walk is partly used up to Aveton Gifford and back down again, but a ferry at Bantham is available in summer months to cut the mileage down significantly. Be aware that the road down to Bigbury on Sea is tidal as is the estuary crossing at Womwell which needs to be timed to cross an hour either side of low tide.
My Rank: 3*
