Durdle Door to Abbotsbury Swannery via Ringstead, Osmington Mills, Weymouth.
4 x Early steep climbs. Path can be very muddy beyond Weymouth around The Fleet. Could take Chesil Beach option if miles of deep shingle is preferable.
SW Coast Path: Isle of Portland not included.
This is a long walk - nearly 25 miles. Ascent early on can sap energy for the mud later in the day, beware. This is likely to be a very different walk in summer months but still scores reasonably for me if only because the first part of the walk through to Ringstead is beautiful and quite challenging. The fake sands at Weymouth give the place a hollow ring to me but the harbour is very pleasant and my faith was restored. The walk along around the Fleet isn't pleasant in the mud but probably still preferable to attempting a long walk along the deep shingle of Chesil Beach. The selected end point was selected for vehicular access which is limited along this part of the coast.
