Long Promenade and pavement till Sandbanks. Then start of SW Coast Path - sandy beach. Rugged muddy cliff path from Durlston Head
South West Coast Path.
With a long busy hard wearing promenade through Bournemouth leading to the roads around Sandbanks, the South West Coast Path feels a very long way off. It starts immediately from the ferry at Studland and a lovely beach walk is a just reward before the first real ascent of the SWCP hits and morphes from a grassy undulating path to a rugged muddy one from Durlston Head. This is a punishing introduction to the SWCP. If you are only starting it is something very typical of the rest of the trail. Highlight - Studland and a great pub at Worth Matravers to finish at (Square & Compass). 23+ miles and around 4,000ft of ascent make this a hard day.
