Hiking to the Komulanköngäs waterfall 9 km, Ukkohalla Finland
On this circle trail you get to enjoy duckboards on swamp areas, natural finnish forests and the main view of waterfalls of Komulanköngäs known as Myllykoski, where the old mill is.
Come to enjoy beautiful views of Ukkohalla and nature of Kainuu region! This route is 9 km long circle route, which starts from Ukkohalla ski resort. On Kokkoharjunkierros trail you will see a nice old forest, swamp and waterfall views. The highlight of this trail is two 6 meters long picturesque waterfalls in about half way of the route. Best time to see waterfalls is between April and May, when there is springfloods, but waterfalls are beautiful view in other months also. Close to waterfall there is two fireplaces where you can have a nice little break to make a fire and eat some snacks. There is also dry toilet.
This route should also be suitable for families with older kids, if the lenght of this route is not to long. Ground is mostly quite flat, with not too big elevation differences, but when you leave Myllykoski waterfall on the path back to Ukkohalla there is lot of roots in the ground.

Turn-by-turn directions
Trail starts from the parking lot of Ukkohalla ski & sport resort, there you can find the first information board of the hiking routes of Ukkohalla. From there go to left, walk past Wakepark and continue forward by walking on the sand road, after about 500 metres you will come wooden bridge, go over that and continue forward on trail about 800 metres. Then you come to crossroad of two trails, walk forward again so don´t turn to right. After that stay on trail that goes forward about 1.4km. After 1.4km you will come to junction of two trails, turn right and continue forward about 1.7km until you reach waterfalls. When you leave mill and fireplace close to it walk further up and you come to some sand road, there turn right and follow sand road for while until the trail goes into forest and changes to a small forest path. Forest path meanders in forest about 3.2km, and after that you will come to junction, there turn left. Rest of the way back to Ukkohalla ski &sport resort will be same road/trail that you first came. From there it is about 1.3km back to startingpoint.

Public transport
The Ukkohalla Ski&Sport Resort can be reached with the bus from Kajaani. Within 2 hours and 40 minutes one can reach the bus stop Ukkohalla Lauttakylä, from where the Resort is just 2 km away.
But be aware that the public transportation is not optimal for hiking this route. It is the easiest if you travel with your own car.
Getting there
Coming from Kajaani, you can reach the Ukkohalla Ski&Sport Resort in a little over an hour by taking the route E63.
If you come from Kuusamo you can take the E63 and drive for about 2 hours south until you arrive at your destination.
Coming from Oulu you take the route 837 and arrive at your destination in a little over 2 hours.

Ukkohalla Ski & Sport resorts have a free parking lot and it is the best place to park because that is starting point or the route.Coordinates
