The summit hiking trail in the Thuringian Forest
This extended, entertaining tour leads to the highest peaks of the Thuringian Forest and rewards athletic hikers with magnificent views.
The almost 30 km long route takes us over numerous peaks, almost all of which are higher than 900 m, and is therefore reserved for more ambitious hikers. But even if the tour seems strenuous, every summit we climb rewards us with a magnificent view. Nature and solitude, flower-filled meadows and ice-cold springs as well as many places to stop for refreshments make this circular hike an unforgettable experience. Along the way we repeatedly encounter one of Germany's most popular long-distance hiking trails, the Rennsteig. From the Suhl district of Goldlauter, the tour starts steeply up the Salzberg, the entrance to the 900 m peaks. We continue along the foot of the Groß Eisenberg and climb the Groß Finsterberg with its lookout tower at 944 m above sea level. The next peak we climb is the Fichtenkopf.
