  • After a good one and a half kilometres of walking, we have this view of St. Georgen.

St. Georgen is the focus of this circular tour. From here, the route goes over the Sternenhöhe and the Kesselberg to the Brigach spring and back over the Sturmbühl and the Sommerauer Höhe.

Our circular tour starts at the market square in St. Georgen. A good orientation aid for the tour is provided by the 20 information boards that have been set up along the route. If you don't find one of these signs for more than two kilometres, you have almost certainly strayed from the hiking route... The first of these signs is in front of the post office on the market square. From here we walk the first part of the tour always on the "Mittelweg Pforzheim-Waldshut". This section of the trail is marked with a red rhombus with a white bar. We follow the signpost "Heimatpfad" over a short flight of stairs to the Catholic church. Here you will find the second information board and continue in the direction of the signpost "Heimatpfad". At the next corner, follow the sign with the red rhombus in the direction of the monastery pond to the third information board. A paved footpath now leads steeply downhill and under a subway. We reach the fourth information board, continue to follow the red rhombus in the direction of the Way of the Cross and after about 700 m we reach the edge of the forest. Continue along the edge of the forest and past the fifth information board, from where we have a beautiful view back to St. Georgen. We hike, slightly ascending, up into the forest, past majestic old fir trees that stand here to the left and right of the path. A little further on we come to the seventh information board - here we have a magnificent panoramic view of the valley. The path leads us to the eighth information board. From there we follow the signpost with the red rhombus to the left until we reach a road. Now we walk along the path, which runs alternately to the right and left of the road, past the bus stop, to the youth recreation and education centre. From here, take the path to the left in front of the buildings uphill through a fairytale-looking coniferous forest to the tenth information board. From here on, the path is not always easy to find and you have to pay close attention to the signposts and the markings (red rhombus). After we always follow the red rhombus to the eleventh and twelfth information board, we orientate ourselves from the twelfth information board on a new marking: We now hike along the blue rhombus on the access path Kesselberg-Hochwälder Höhe in the direction of St. Georgen. After about 500 m we reach the Hirzwald inn. Then we continue along the road, following the blue rhombus. Cross the road after about 200 m and follow the path to information board 13. From here you can take a short detour to the Brigach spring. Follow the signs downhill and, after visiting the spring, return to information board 13. We continue, still following the blue rhombus, over the Sturmbühl, past the next information boards to the Sommerauer Höhe. Through a varied landscape, with alternating meadows and wooded areas, we reach information board 18. About 100 m further on, we hike left into a forest, where the 19th information board is located. From here we change the path and now follow the signpost of the Heimatpfad, which is marked with a yellow rhombus, through the forest, walk past a small pond and reach the glass yards lying in a meadow. We continue hiking until we reach St. Georgen. In the village we walk along the asphalted road until we reach Westendstraße. We follow this to the right and finally turn left into Sommerauerstraße, which after a short stretch becomes the main road and leads us back to the starting point, the market square.
