Into the valley to Emmendingen

We start in Helgenreute, a district of Freiamt. There are different spellings for this district: Helgenrütte, Hölgenrütte and Helgenreute. The name "Reute" or "Rütte" refers to a cleared area. It is thanks to this clearing that we have the open plateau here, which affords us fantastic views as far as the Black Forest range. From the house with the number 3, we hike out on the side road to the district road. There we take the footpath and cycle path to the right in a southerly direction and past the bus stop to the next junction. Here we follow the bicycle signpost in the direction of Mußbach. At the hiking signpost Mußbach-Siedlung, we leave the district road and follow the yellow rhombus to the right in the direction of Landeck and past individual farmsteads until we reach the forest. There we continue our hike on the middle path along the yellow rhombus. At the edge of the forest, we continue with a wonderful view to the signpost at the Stabhalterhof farm (1). Here we follow the yellow rhombus in the direction of Landeck, cross a small road and continue on the meadow path along the edge of the forest to a farm on a small road. Follow this to the right in the direction of the country road. At the signpost "Schirmer", we turn left onto a narrow path before reaching the road. We walk over small tree trunks through a "primeval forest-like" forest until we leave it after about 1.5 km. We are surprised by a great view, which we can enjoy comfortably on the bench standing here. We follow the paved farm road on the opposite side straight ahead until we reach the "Stilzer Fritz" restaurant (2). Here we stay on the little road until shortly before reaching the next farmstead. Before reaching the barn, turn right onto the meadow path and walk past fields and a raised hide into the forest. Here we come to a forest path, which we follow to the left until we reach an even wider forest path after about 500 m. Follow this to the right downhill. Follow this down to the right along the blue rhombus. At the next forest road junction, we continue walking to the right in the direction of Emmendingen. We follow the blue rhombus until we reach a tiny shelter, where we continue our hike to the right along the hay path. Continue to the rest area at the "Gebrannte Eiche" (3). Here we walk out of the forest to the right and follow the private path below the meadow to the settlement of Wöpplinsberg (4) at the junction to the chapel. If you wish, you can make a small detour and walk across the meadow to the chapel. Our actual path leads on the road through the settlement and at the crossroads below the farms further down the hill to the left. About 100 m after this junction, we leave the road and follow the trail markings with the red dot to the left across the meadow into the forest. At the next crossroads, walk uphill along the wide forest path towards Emmendingen, follow the red dot through the forest and leave the wide path at an old oak tree. Here we turn right onto a narrow path and continue to a shelter at the cemetery (5). We hike on the forest path to the right for about 100 m and then turn left again onto a path. Follow the blue rhombus around the cemetery (turn left at the turning point). We continue to follow the path marking with the blue rhombus along a narrow path to the church at the Stadtpark (6) in Emmendingen. Over the Elisabeth bridge and past picturesque houses, we now walk straight ahead. Through the pedestrian zone we continue straight ahead to the station. In front of the station building we follow the road to the left. At the next crossroads, we turn right to the bus stop where bus line 211 takes us back to Helgenreute almost every hour (please check the exact times beforehand).
