Wolfach

If you are travelling by car, we recommend that you leave your car at the train station in Wolfach and take the Ortenau-S-Bahn to Schiltach. For our hike, we walk from the station along Bahnhofstrasse to the Protestant church. From there follow the signpost with the red rhombus to Dornacker. On Hohensteiner Stra&szlig we turn left just before the cemetery, from where a path branches off again to the left, winding its way up the hill to Moosenmättle. But first we climb the serpentines up to a forest road and follow it to the right (trail marking: red rhombus). In the slightly ascending terrain, continue on this road, but then leave it in a sharp left-hand bend and continue straight on. At a T-junction, turn left. The path curves to the right, which you follow and enjoy a magnificent view in several places, until you finally reach a large crossroads. Our route continues straight on (trail mark: red rhombus), always uphill through the forest, with some beautiful views into the valley, until we reach an asphalted road. Follow this across a small open space, initially level and then up a steep incline to the Gasthaus Heuwiese (1). Here you have the opportunity to rest and strengthen yourself after the strenuous metres of hike. Then, behind the inn, you walk downhill to the right on a forest path in the direction of Moosenmättle, always following the red rhombus and thus reaching a path after about 1 km on a wide forest path again. Shortly afterwards we reach a road, orientate ourselves here on the path marking with the yellow rhombus and go right in the direction of Moosenmättle. There, following the blue rhombus, we continue on an asphalted road in the direction of Wolfach. Soon we reach a rest area with a children's playground;

From here, the blue rhombus no longer guides us, but we continue on the asphalted road. Our hike now continues across the beautiful open spaces of the Black Forest with fantastic views to the Laubenhöhe lookout point (2). There, a magnificent panoramic view over the Black Forest hills awaits us. After we have enjoyed this extensively, we meet the path marked with the blue rhombus again after approx. 500 m. We hike to the left on a path. We hike to the left on a path in the direction of Wolfach (trail marking: blue rhombus) and walk along the edge of the forest. From there we have a clear view across the meadows until we enter the forest. The blue rhombus now leads us up a short ascent and then down to the Horbenhof (3). Here we have a great view of the Black Forest hills again and again. Behind the Horbenhof, continue following the blue rhombus and after a descent of approx. 2 km, you reach the idyllically situated St. Jakob's Chapel (4). Here we can relax before continuing downhill on the path to Wolfach (blue rhombus). On the last few kilometres of the descent, we enjoy the view of Wolfach (5) lying in the valley. When we arrive in the small town, we can stroll through the town centre or to the castle before taking the Ortenau S-Bahn back to the starting point.
