On an atmospheric ridge walk along the southern Schönbuch ridge from Herrenberg to Unterjesingen, the Schönbuch presents itself as a light riparian forest. Again and again, breathtaking views open up into the wide Ammer valley, down to the magnificent meadows of the "Swabian orchard paradise" and to the bluish shimmering wall of the Swabian Alb. Wonderful resting benches invite you to enjoy the view, and there are nice places to stop at various points.

Easily accessible by bus or S-Bahn, the trail starts at Herrenberg station. Through the historic old town of Herrenberg with one of the most beautiful market squares in southern Germany, the trail leads up to the Schlossberg and from there into the middle of the Schönbuch Nature Park, the "Forest Area of the Year 2014". The actual Traufweg starts at the car park of the forest cemetery and leads steadily along the edge of the Schönbuch to Tübingen-Unterjesingen.

The Wurmlinger Chapel with its exposed location on the Kapellenberg greets you from afar. The best place to enjoy the view is from Hohenentringen Castle, an 11th-century castle complex with a restaurant and beer garden. Soon after, the trail leads gently downhill and into Unterjesingen, where the Ammertalbahn train takes you comfortably back to the starting point in Herrenberg. If you want to make a detour to the beautiful university town of Tübingen, you can continue along the HW or take the Ammertalbahn from Unterjesingen to Tübingen in just a few minutes.
