Fuente De 16.6km Circular Route

An absolutely stunning 16.6km circular hike in the Picos de Europa starting from Fuente De and an exhilarating cable car ride to the start of the hike.

Absolute must to arrive early at the cable car station as queues start to form with only 2 cable cars in operation. The Fuente De location has plenty of free parking and is a beautiful location with many hiking trails and outdoor adventure activities starting from this point.

The cable car trip takes you high into the mountains from which you follow a fairly straightforward route through an amphitheatre of mountain ranges slowly descending into countryside. In the mountains you will pass directly by a Refuge which serves meals and refreshments and has accommodation. This is also a great place to stop and admire the views.

Descending through beautiful meadows and forest until you reach the main road at Espinama village which you pass through before making the ascent back up through fields and forest to return to the Fuente De site.

The first half of the hike is the easiest as the ascent is covered by the cable car and therefore you are mostly descending. The second half returning from Espinama to Fuente De is much more demanding as you ascend through the countryside.
