Črnica is one of ten Cherry Blossom Trails, which are named after old Brda cherry varieties. The trails are marked by brown signposts, yellow and white circles and yellow arrows on roads, rocks, trees and other flat surfaces.
The Črnica loop trail runs through the western part of Brda, passing through the villages of Šlovrenc, Slavče, Hlevnik, Hruševlje, Neblo and Fojana. Several climbs to Brda hills strewn with vineyards, orchards and olive groves afford us scenic views of the Brda landscape.
The trail starts and ends at the Dobrovo Castle, which is interesting from the historic, cultural and artistic point of view, since it houses a museum and a gallery. It then leads us past the Klet Brda winery, the largest producer and exporter of Slovenian wines. At Peternel, we can stop by the WWII memorial and also admire a two-arched stone bridge with st. John of Nepomuk. The natural attractions Krčnik, a natural stone bridge, and Kotline, natural pools, are located relatively near the trail.

This trail goes over a stream, which cannot be crossed during heavy rain periods as the water level gets too high.Tips and hints
Three drinking fountains can be found on this trail:
- two in Dobrovo (one at the playground by the Dobrovo castle and one at the parking lot opposite the Klet Brda wine cellar) and
- one in Fojana (in the square in front of the St. Florian church).
A trip through Brda is not complete without trying some of our delicious seasonal dishes and excellent products. Seize the opportunity and try some of our local wines, olive oil, honey and spirits!
Selected winemakers, olive oil, honey and spirits producers offer tastings of their products without prior arrangement, some of them also guided cellar tours. The producers will be more than happy to share with you interesting facts about the production and our territory.

Turn-by-turn directions
Our trail starts in the heart of the Brda region, in front of the castle Dobrovo. After a short descent we start climbing towards the village Šlovrenc, where the trail evens out. At the crossroads in Peternel we can admire a two-arched stone bridge and a World War II memorial. If we stray from our trail for a few metres we will see the stream Kožbanjšček, which offers the most beautiful natural sights of this kind in Slovenia. Here we can admire the stone bridge Krčnik and natural pools Kotline. The trail leads us to the village Hruševlje and then to the village Neblo, where in the midst of the vineyards we can admire the beautiful landscape. After a short descent we start climbing towards the village Fojana, which is known after its two churches – St. Spirit on the Lake and St. Florjan. The trail then brings us back to our starting point, Dobrovo.
There is also a shorter version of the trail (11.8 km), leading from Šlovrenc directly to Hruševlje, thus leaving out the part around Peternel. It is marked on the map that can be picked up at the Tourist Information Centre in Šmartno or downloaded here.
