Ginsberger Heide – Ginsberg Heath south-east of Hilchenbach
Arbeitsgemeinschaft Biologischer Umweltschutz im Kreis Soest e.V Verified partner
On your hike in the area you can discover diverse forest habitats. In the near-natural Beech forests you may hear the calls or the drumming of the Black Woodpecker. In the cool and damp ravine forests the Perennial Honesty thrives, while sphagnum mosses grow in the undergrowth of the Downy Birch swamp forests.
The open landscape of the Ginsberg Heath also has a lot to offer: from dry nutrient-poor meadows and Mat-Grass land to moorland meadows with cotton grasses and other marshland plants, such as the Marsh Cinquefoil. With luck, you can see a Red-backed Shrike sitting on the willow bushes in the summer. Hunting Red Kites and the rare Black Stork can also be occasionally observed.
