San Bortolo of the Mountains, among contrade and enchanted woods
A hike discovering the Lessinia, a territory full of contrade and ancient malgas, among enchanted woods, waterways and scenic views that will fascinate us.
A beautiful excursion in the wild nature of the Lessinia Mountains, through a route full of surprises, discovering paths with dry stone walls which bring us back to the time of the Cimbrian people.
From the village of San Bortolo delle Montagne we ascend through a thick coppice until we reach thesmall oratory church of contrà Gaiga built in 1912. The route climbs uphill allowing you to admire the spectacular Calgera waterfall surrounded by an amazing beech wood.
Proceed towards Durlo, one of the several contrade characterising the wooded valleys at the foot of thes plendid setting of the rocky mountains.
Once you arrive in Durlo you gently climb up the beech wood towards the top of the volcanic cone of Purga Mount reaching a wide clearing to admire the magnificent landscape of the high valley of Chiampo, which is full of districts still retaining their original structure.
The traditional and folkloristic "Festa di Trombini" (also known as "s-ciopi" or "pistoni", war weapons ofthe VII-VIII century, whose snaps are now used to cheer up festive occasions) is not to be missed between the end of May and the beginning of June.
Author’s recommendation
We suggest a stop at the wood surrounding the Calgera waterfall, to enjoy the evocative light filtering from the trees and breathe a fascinating magic.
