Rothaarsteig-Spur Oberhundemer Bergtour

I wouldn't suggest this route. When we started walking it all looked really nice. But after about a kilometer, the road were just 'forest freeways'. It's a term we read in another review, but it started to make sense then. Up until the horeca place, all these roads were there for cars. Everywhere around us a lot of trees were cut down. The sound of working machines were with us almost have of the way. We thought that was a real shame. Maybe it's better when a few young tress start to grow back, but now it was not a pretty sight. We did enjoy the sun for it was a beautiful day, but it's just not what we came for. This went on for at least 8 kilometers up until our little break. I already read on the Internet that the horeca place was closed. The so called cherry on top. We almost walked by it without seeing it! They had a fridge where you can get a drink if you leave cash. And the balcony is free to sit on. And the toilets outside were very clean. So this was a nice surprise. The route after that got much better again! Small pads through the forest and a great open field in the end. Because it said the route takes 4 hours and 15 minutes we thought it would be quite a walk. We do walk a bit faster then most people, but we only walked for 2 hours and 30 minutes. That does exclude our little break, but not other small stops for a bit to drink or a foto. So don't let it fool you like it did us. I really wouldn't recommend this trip. The views are cut down trees and we also passed a small group of trees that they were cutting down at that moment. I wasn't sure if they had seen us so I thought that was a bit scary. The fallen down trees were right next to the pad. It is a nice walk to go up to the Alpenhouse! That would be a better alternative then the whole route. I added a number of pictures so do make up your mind yourselfs, but I really think there must be prettier walks. Enjoy!
