This route starts at the Haggen train station and runs along meadows and forests. You walk through different neighbourhoods high above the city of St.Gallen with countless vantage points to admire the city and the Abbey District below with its cathedral. The highlight of this route is the walk along the ponds below the Freudenberg with the Art Nouveau bathhouses, directly above the old town of St.Gallen. On hot summer days, the Drei Weieren, or Three Ponds, are a great place for a refreshing swim and in winter, they are a popular place for ice-skating enthusiasts. After passing the third pond, the trail continues upwards, running along the edge of a forest up to the Freudenberg. The last part of the trail meanders through the countryside and goes through a forest to the Schwarzer Bären stop.
Author’s recommendation
There are beautiful barbecue areas on the Freudenberg above St.Gallen. The St.Gallen bratwurst is especially tasty when cooked over an open fire.
