Mount Qua Qua Hike
Where is Mount Qua Qua?
Mount Qua Qua is sits within Grand Etang National Park, in Grenada’s mountainous central region. Entrance to the park is located a short distance off the main road that joins Grenada’s capital, St Georges, with Grenville, Grenada’s second biggest town.
The Mount Qua Qua Hike
We negotiated a EC$100 (£30 approx) fee for a local guide and made our way to the trailhead, just a short distance along the road in the direction of St Georges.
The first part of the hike is flat and takes you through pleasant shady forest. Soon enough, the gradient increases and you gradually work your way up the mountain ride. The steeper sections have useful man-made steps that aid the ascent massively.
Grenada is a windy island and naturally at higher altitudes, this is far more noticeable. Thankfully, the forest acts beautifully as a windbreak and also helps to keep the powerful Caribbean sun at bay.
Take in Those Views!
As you climb, breaks in the undergrowth off to your left and right will expose you to the incredible views that this hike offers. Not only will you feast your eyes on the thick sweeping forest but also on the glistening waters off both the east and west coast. Views over the beautiful Grand Etang Lake will also now be clearly visible in all its glory.
Heading up the Ridge Towards the Summit
As the Mount Qua Qua hike takes you towards the summit, the sides of the trail open right up offering up even more wonderful views in every direction. It is pretty clear when you have reached the top as the trail comes to an end and a sizable boulder greets you!
If you want the ultimate view, climb on to the summit stone and soak up the stunning vistas out to Grenada’s East Coast. There is a big drop so do be careful!
Enjoy!
