Hinterglemm is a largely linear village, with road entrances at each end. There is a semi-pedestrianised zone in the middle, with bollards to deter through traffic. Very much a winter holiday resort, Hinterglemm has plenty of hotels, guest houses and shops. There is a tourist information office at the east end.
Start by heading along the roadside pavement towards the centre of Hinterglemm, forking right before the tunnel entrance.
1. Towards the east end of the village (but before the Tourist Office) turn left to cross a bridge over the River Saalach. At the far end of the bridge is a sign 'Promenade 1 Saalbach'. Turn right here to follow a gravel track beside the river. Go under the valley road, close to the east end of the tunnel. Cross the road and bridge, then turn left in 40m. There is a 'Promenade Saalbach 1' sign.
2. Follow the little tarmac road, passing between buildings. Pass the bus station of the Mitteregg ski lift, the track now passing between meadows, rich in wild flowers. The delightful track returns to the river side, passing several bridges, a large indoor sports hall and another 'Promenade Saalbach' sign. Pass the hotel Barenbachhof and a public car park, staying on the right bank of the river; there is a swimming pool on the far side of the valley road. Reach the Schattberg X press cabin lift. There is a bridge here; either this or the next bridge can be used to cross the river and reach the road.
3. Cross the road to the bus stop (or return on foot if preferred).
