The hiking trail leads past the remains of the Arnstein ruins and the sports field through the forest near Morlesau. At the exit, the path turns right and leads uphill across fields to the "Hohes Haupt" forest area and finally through the "Sodenberg Gans" nature reserve.
The legendary Giselakreuz is located in the immediate vicinity of the hiking route. A detour there is worthwhile!
Continue to the Rhönklub memorial (with a fantastic view of the valley). Finally, hike steeply downhill on a wooded path back to Ochsenthal.
Safety informationThe paths are also used by cyclists. In winter there can be snow, the paths are not cleared.
The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).
We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies, of course, to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.
Tips and hintsYou can find more information about the Sondenberg here.
Public-transport-friendlyThose who start the hike in Morlesau can reach it with the Erfurt Railway, as there is a regional train station in Morlesau. The connections can be researched on the Deutsche Bahn website.
Morlesau can also be reached by bus. The following bus line from the Bad Kissingen district stops in Morlesau:
- Line 8166: Hammelburg - Untererthal / Diebach - Völkersleier - Hammelburg
There is no connection to local public transport in the starting point itself.
Getting thereThe hiking trail can be approached via the A7. You leave this at exit 97 Hammelburg and drive the B287 in the direction of Hammelburg. At the third entrance to Hammelburg, turn right at the traffic lights and follow the main road always keeping left through Hammelburg in the direction of Diebach. In Diebach, follow the signs towards Morlesau and after the sports field left over the bridge towards Ochsenthal.
