Minett Trail: Belval-Université - Esch-sur-Alzette Gare (Alternative)
On this section you walk from an alternative starting point between the new district of Belval, which has been developing rapidly for almost ten years, and the city of Esch-sur-Alzette. Even though it's not an official stage of the Trail, you're still likely to get a good impression of the region. The former industrial wasteland was made habitable again with enormous efforts; since then, the district that officially belongs to Esch-sur-Alzette has been filled with new life. Whether as a cultural center (with the "Rockhal"), for research or studies and sciences (Belval is the location of the University of Luxembourg, which is also very young) or leisure, the location is a prime example of successful revalorisation.
Author’s recommendation
This is also where the cross-border hiking trail "Circuit transfrontalier de l'Acier" starts, which runs 21.4 kilometers through Luxembourg and France and sheds light on the shared history of the steel industry. This hiking trail is marked with a red "A".

Turn-by-turn directions
This stage of the “Minett Trail” trail starts at either the Belval-Université train station or the train station of Esch-sur-Alzette (ideally in front of the Parc Gaalgebierg "Passerelle" foot bridge). Follow the official signposting: The signs show three red arrows on a white background. They are signposted "on sight" and may be affixed to streetlights or other posts.
While in our nature reserves, you can find them as glued or screwed to trees and posts; in some places the waymark is also marked on trees. At important junctions you will also find signposts with arrows indicating the direction and information about the distance to specific points, as well as pictograms of points of interest.
