Opened for tourism in 2006, Lake Markkleeberg now offers a wide range of leisure activities. In addition to action-packed whitewater fun at the well-known Canoe Park Markkleeberg, sailing, diving, surfing or climbing are also possible, as is relaxing while swimming in the crystal-clear water or boating. Part of the route runs along the 14 km-long geological trail, whose 16 info points are centered around the stone experience site near the canoe park lock.

Turn-by-turn directions
The circular route begins at the Markkleeberg lake promenade. You have the opportunity to go on a boat trip. The path leads from the lake promenade to the lower shore path, the lake on the right side always in view. Especially at sunset, there are great views over the lake, towards the sun. On the straight south, the path passes the Geopfard Markkleeberg, with several stations. After the Auenhainer beach, the canoe park Markkleeberg is already in sight. Pass it via the path 'Wildwasserkehre' and continue at the intersection 'Zum Wildwasser' right around. On the left behind you is the impressive mining technology park. Before crossing the 'Störmthaler Kanal', you will find the 'Steinerlebnisplatz' on the left. The route leads you further on the path 'Zum Wildwasser' until you reach the turnoff 'An der Crostewitzer Höhe' on the right. You are now at the 'Crostewitzer Höhe'. On your left, you pass an information board and finally a bison pasture. The path branches off to the right onto 'Zur Göselmündung' and leads around to the right again onto the west side of Lake Markkleeberg. Turning right again, you now arrive at the adventure playground Lake Markkleeberg, the lido Markkleeberg-Ost and finally the lake promenade. The circular trail is asphalted and can be walked comfortably.
