This 6.5 mile route along the prom at Funchal and beyond should have been easier but a connecting tunnel had been closed. Still a nice walk at the seaside.

Updated 19/02/2015 when the tunnel was open. The route was left the same but pictures added at the diversion to show the tunnel.

Madeira had gone to a lot of trouble to create a seaside walk from Funchal to the Camara de Lobos area. A connecting tunnel had been made on the Ponta da Cruz and a raised walkway further on. However, for this walk the route has to go inland for a short while, as the tunnel was closed. A bus or taxi is taken to the start of the walk, so that only half of the route is both ways. Easy walking with great views and plenty of places to stop for refreshment and comfort breaks. Just take your time on an extended stroll on the Passeio Publico Maritimo.

We did the walk again in 2015 and the tunnel was open. I left the route as is but added photos of the tunnel to the diversion waymark.
