Our tour takes us through the west of Madeira's capital Funchal, past Pico da Ponta da Cruz and down to the beach. On the way, we walk along narrow channels, the levadas, again and again. These are artificial watercourses that supply agricultural land with water - a real unique selling point for Madeira. During our hike, the Doca do Cavacas bathing spot with a sun terrace awaits us. We can also admire the rushing sea in a tunnel-like cave, which is definitely a highlight of the walk. The water whips against the rock walls and the gentle drizzle provides a welcome cooling to the blazing sun outside.
