Old Castle Rock and Diana Relief
moderate
Distance 14.7 km
One of the largest rock formations in the Palatinate and a Romanesque rock relief are the highlights of this tour, which runs along a long stretch of the German-French border.
You will also pass numerous old boundary stones along the way. Our route runs through a rock gate in the old castle rock. Traces of Celtic, Roman and medieval settlements have been found on the red sandstone towers of the 1.5 km long and up to 35 m high rock formation. The Diana relief from Roman times was created in an artificial depression in another rock and, in addition to the goddess of hunting, probably shows Mars, the god of war, and Silvanus, the god of the forest.
