Especially in autumn, you should also be aware that the leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. You have to expect this kind of path obstruction when you go on a hike. If you think that certain sections of the path are not passable for you, you should avoid them. Premium hiking with audio and video information
At a total of 9 points along the trail, we have provided you with interesting information about the places and sights. You can walk the route using the route description (here the links to the information on youtube are marked as "station") or you can use the official and free Rheinland-Pfalz erleben app .
And this is how it works on site: Start or install the Rhineland-Palatinate app, activate the GPS function of your smartphone, select the tour, click on "open in app" and select the map view. Now you can start the tour and always play the audio and video files at one of the symbols visible on the map. So you don't need to look at your smartphone all the time and can consciously experience the hike with your head up. To get you in the mood, we show you here in the video what all awaits you on the Leiningen Monastery Trail (Station 1).
The starting point of the Leiningen Monastery Trail is the Rahnenhof in Hertlingshausen (station), the excursion pub and conference centre of the Friends of Nature. We always follow the yellow markings with a stylised monastery: along quiet paths that make up a large part of the trail, we reach the Alte Sauhäuschen (station). The shelter hut at a small forest spring originally served as a shelter for forest workers and hunters. Now we go up to the Kieskautberg (station), the highest point of the hike. The mountain is 461 m high and lies two kilometres south of Carlsberg in the east of the Diemerstein Forest, as a section of the northern Palatinate Forest is called. On the further way we circle the Steinkopf; from here there is a beautiful view of the elevations of Mönchskappe, Ameisen-Kopf or Rahnfels.Past the Schlüsselstein (station) and the Leuchtenberg we then head towards Höningen. The Schlüsselstein (the Petrus key as a sign of the clergy)marks the border of the monastery property to the former Ganerbenwald (cooperative property of several villages from the Rhine plain). Höningen (stop) (refreshment stop) with its former monastery and St. Jacob's Church (oldest Romanesque building in the Palatinate; restored medieval paintings) used to be the cultural heart of Altleiningen. At the Neuhöfer spring (station), the monastery trail crosses the Altleiningen forest nature trail. Many stations explain tree species, grasses and shrubs, native birds, mushrooms and various game species. We leave the Palatinate Forest, walk past the former Neuhof monastery estate (station) (today a "Demeter" farm and market garden with shop), continue through the Eckbach valley to the monastery village of Hertlingshausen (station) and from there back to the starting point of the tour (refreshment stop) or back to the bus stop.

Getting there
From the west and east:
Via the A6 in the direction of Grünstadt, exit Wattenheim, Carlsberg.
From the south:
From Ludwigshafen via A65 in the direction of Bad Dürkheim. Exit Gewerbegebiet. Go straight ahead at the traffic lights. At the next traffic lights, turn right towards Ungstein. Continue to the roundabout. Take the 3rd exit here. After approx. 100m, cross the Dt. Weinstraße and turn right towards Kallstadt, then continue towards Herxheim/Bg. In Herxheim/Bg. turn left at the traffic lights towards Weisenheim/Bg. Follow the Weisenheim/Bg. bypass to Bobenheim/Bg. , Neuleiningen. Via L517, L520, Talstr. and L520 to Dorfstr. in Carlsberg. Continue via Klosterstr. to Hintergasse.

Equipment
Sturdy shoes, clothing suitable for the weather, sun and rain protection, as well as sufficient supplies of food and drinks, as there are not refreshment stops or shopping facilities available or open everywhere. Although the trail is very well marked throughout, you should always have a suitable hiking map with you for safety reasons.
