Monemvasia

The name says it all: Monemvasia means "only entrance", and in fact the place, which is located on a rock and can only be seen from the sea, is only connected to the coast of Laconia by a narrow path. On this hike, the location of the village alone is an absolute highlight. But the rich history is also impressive: In the Byzantine Empire, Monemvasia was an important fortress that was considered impregnable. Since the conquest by the Turks in 1715, however, the place slowly lost its importance – but the old buildings still inspire today. The round tour is varied and offers something for every taste: beautiful nature trails for hiking, Byzantine remains that can be admired up close, and a charming town with narrow streets where you can stock up on souvenirs or simply take a break in a café. The last part of the tour takes you close to the coast with a spectacular view of the sea.
