Pirunkurun ponnistus
Metsähallitus - Parks & Wildlife Finland Verified partner Explorers Choice
Hike the rugged and beautiful Pirunkuru Ravine. Seeing all the different shades of grey in this beautiful rocky area will take your breath away.
The ravine is quite a tough physical test for hikers, but the amazing fell landscapes and clean air are a fine reward for anyone who takes on Pirunkuru Ravine.
The early part of the trail is easy backpacking through open forest towards the Kesänkijärvi lean-to shelter. When the trail turns into the ravine, it’s time to test yourself on the rocks. The steep ascent to Kesänkitunturi Fell and the loose rocks underfoot make hikers work hard. Take a break to wipe the sweat off your forehead and admire the majestic ravine and expansive fell landscapes behind you.
The winds here are some of the purest in the world. It’s a good idea to catch your breath and enjoy the view of the Pallastunturi Fells on the horizon. The untouched lichen-covered outcrops make the fell look green.
Soon you’ll arrive at Tahkokuru Lapp hut, where you can gather your strength for the return journey. Now that you’ve completed the Pirunkuru Ravine hike, it’s time to relax because the journey back to the starting point follows an easy trail and gravel road.

Safety information
The weather can change rapidly on the fell, and visibility can deteriorate very quickly. Always prepare for cold and rain; you should be prepared for wintery conditions in spring and autumn even if the weather is warm when you set off.
Mobile phone reception is not available on all hiking routes. The signal is usually better in higher and more open terrain. Download the 112 Finland application free of charge and activate it before starting your hike. Remember that mobile phone batteries run down quickly in cold conditions.
