Utterleden
Jakobstad Region Development Company Concordia Ltd Verified partner Explorers Choice
The route, marked with blue colour, runs through the most sparsely inhabited areas of the municipality and gives the visitor a chance to see untouched nature, forest areas used for recreation and stretches of uncultivated wilderness: swamps and ponds, primeval forests and rocky terrain. While hiking, you will also stumble upon several uninhibited, deserted crofts.
Fauna is rich and plentiful by the riverside, and you could potentially see otters, flying squirrels, several species of birds and even moose. Forest in the region is usually used for commercial purposes, but the Utterleden trail takes you on a journey through a variety of valuable and exceptional domains. The name references the facts that otters are frequently spotted in watercourses next to the trail.
If you wish to hike the whole trail at a leisurely pace, this can usually be accomplished in two or three days.
