Many different things to see along the way with the wetlands being the highlight with many different birds to see. The waterfall is a spectacular bonus on this track, definitely take the detour to see this.

Distance 8.6 km
Approx 3 hrs (Photos and stops)
From the Karekare car park walk across the bridge and along Pohutakawa Track. Look out for the Zion Hill Track sign on your left.
Steady incline to the top with great views out to Karekare. A seat to admire the views is sitting halfway up the hill, off the main track.
At the junction continue down Zion Hill Track, it's muddy. Views out to Whatipu every now an then. One stream crossing.
Buck Taylor Track, a steep but short track down to the wetlands.
Wetlands are worth exploring with a huge number of different bird life.
Continue on along the sand dunes where you'll come across a toilet, campground and tunnel. Again, it's worth exploring this area.
This will take you back to the Karekare car park. BUT, before you go back to the carpark I suggest taking a little detour to see the waterfall. It's worth the extra few minutes to see it.
Overall, a nice hike with views and many different things to see along the way.
