Stage 5 Gasthof Valentinalm to Zollenseehutte

The walk can be broken down into three parts each with their own distinct characteristics.  The first part up to the Obere Spielbodenalom is a walk through larch and pine, pleasant enough but lacking the drama experienced on the first four days.  After a steep climb the second part travels around a huge wide valley whose lovely wide grassy hillsides are wonderful in the sunshine but bleak, desolate and almost certainly empty if it’s raining.   If there is a bit of mist or cloud about, obscuring the huge mountains in the distance, it feels like a walk through high moors in the north of England.    Finally, having crossed the pass at Ködertörl (and the border and frontline), the walk drops into a much tighter valley following the remains of a decaying but still beautifully engineered military road before making the final climb up to the Zollnerseehütte.
