Created for the 1972 Summer Olympics, the Olympic Park in Munich recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. The whole area is quite popular with locals: Concerts, open-air cinema, Christmas markets and many opportunities for all kinds of athletic activities make it a great place to be any time of the year.

This route gives you a great overview over the Olympic Park in Munich. It combines a nice scenic walk up a small hill and a good view over the Olympiasee, but you can also enjoy some of the cultural highlights of Munich: the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Hall, the BMW Welt and BMW Museum - a must-see for everyone who is interested in cars and mobility - as well as the Olympic Tower. 

You will also pass the monument to the 1972 Olympic assassination that remembers a dark time of the Olympic history in Munich.

The route starts and ends at the subway station Olympiazentrum (U3).

The viewing platform of the Olympic Tower (Olympiaturm) on an altitude of 190 meters above ground provides a spectacular view over Bavaria’s capital!

Subway Station Olympiazentrum (U3/U8)

Turn-by-turn directions

The route starts at the subway station Olympiazentrum. We pass the BMW Welt and turn left (Walther-Bathe-Weg). We walk by the SoccArena and SeaLife to our left and cross the Olympic lake (Olympiasee) on the Roopsing-Bais-Weg. Then we take the path up the Olympic Hill (Olympiaberg). After the short descent we reach the Rudolf-Harbig-Weg, cross the lake again, until we reach the Coubertinplatz between the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Hall. The trail leads us past the Klagebalken/ Memorial Monument and back to the subway station.
