To Hohenschramberg Castle

Construction of Hohenschramberg Castle began in 1457. In 1633, during the Thirty Years' War, the castle was besieged by soldiers of the Duke of Wuerttemberg. Finally, the fortress had to be surrendered to them. In 1689, the castle was destroyed by the soldiers of King Louis XIV of France. Between 1957 and 1983, excavations and restoration measures were carried out by the town of Schramberg, the State Monuments Office of Baden-Württemberg and the castle pioneers, a group from the local community. It is thanks to these restoration measures that the castle is in such a good condition today;
