This is a testing, but extremely worthwhile walk that will have you working hard after passing through Fornalutx, then see you enjoying a relaxing and long descent as you make your way back to Soller. The views from the top of the ridge are stunning, and worth the challenging climb.

This pleasant walk has you walking on a mixture of quiet country roads, stony paths and forest tracks. There is unfortunately, one long (over a kilometer) section on a busy road which can’t be avoided. This section is clearly indicated on your route notes, with the associated warnings. The biggest challenge today however, is the very steep and seemingly endless ascent after the village of Fornalutx. The best advice, is to take you time and to stop frequently to enjoy the fine views over the village and beyond over your shoulder. Take time to explore the pretty village before heading off.

Author’s recommendation

There are numerous supermarkets near the town square in Soller, or alternatively there is excellent general store on the main square in Fornalutx where you can stock up for the day. There are a number of very pleasant cafes in Fornaltux, but after leaving the village there no further options for eating or drinking along the route until you are back in Soller (although the restaurant at the viewpoint Mirador de ses Barques is sometimes open). The climb out of Fornalutx is testing, so ensure you have plenty of water and something to nibble on when you reach the top

Great walk with some stunning views! After Mirador I diverted from the route to go to Port de Soller, but there are some confusing areas of the path around here that run through private land, but are open for use. Generally well signposted.

The beginning of this hike is a pretty long slog uphill on stone littered paths. Being fit definitely helps here. Once you’re at the top you will find beautiful views on the ridge, and then it drops back down. Beware that near the top the signs do not indicate the trail that belongs to this loop! On the way down you pass by a nice viewpoint with a restaurant, and below that you need to pass through some paths that appear to go through private property. Additionally beware that about 1k of the path before the viewpoint is on a road with no footpath in tight mountain conditions. I’m 29 and fit and this took me about 3.5h not including stopping for lunch.
