Karkali Strict Nature Reserve area is one of the finest grove areas in Finland. The glory of anemones in the spring, and the riot of colour on the autumn leaves are beyond compare.
In Karkali Nature Reserve you experience the special mood of this the herb-rich forest area and the diversity of the nature. Nature along the trail is dominated by hazel and lime groves. At times the trail takes you to the shores of lake Lohjanjärvi and through a forest meadow. Rich birdlife gives a unique touch to the trail and especially it's soundscape during early summer. There are several round tours from 0,5 to 6 km to chooce from. Along the 2 km long Hanski Hakki trail you will find information boards giving you an insight of the surrounding nature.
The area of the nature reserve is protected for conservation and scientific research. Unlike strict nature reserves in general, Karkali is also open for visitors. However you are allowed to walk only on the marked trails, because of the vulnerable natural features of the area which would otherwise be damaged.
