Bunes Beach (Bunesstranda) is perhaps the most beautiful beach in all of Lofoten. The beach is situated in a bowl among the mountains with Helvetestind on one side and Storskiva on the other.
This adventure is quite easy and can be done even when the weather is not perfect. It begins with a ferry ride to the start of the trail in Vindstad, which is a great way of seeing more of the many mountains around the nearby Kjerkfjorden. If you do get a beautiful day, consider hiking Helvetestind as well.
Bunes Beach is similar to Horseid beach (Horseidstranda), but Bunes Beach is a bit easier to get to and has more spectacular surroundings.
Camp on the beach.
Alternatively, Reine is the closest town with accommodation available in traditional “rorbuer”, the trademark red fisherman’s cottages.
Bring a bathing suit and towel if you want to swim in the arctic ocean
Bring water, as it can be hard to find running water
Tips and hints
There is an outhouse by the beach
In July, you can visit the Amanda Café at Vindstad. The café is driven by the community and is not always open, so pack supplies just in case.
To get to the trailhead you need to take a ferry across Reinefjorden, from Reine to Vindstad. The boat leaves daily from Reine so check the timetable for specific times. If you are not already in Reine you can usually find a parking spot in Reine, or check the bus timetable.
Travel Pass Nordland offers cheap 7-day travel in Nordland county. It is valid for all buses and passenger ferries in Lofoten, including the boat across Reinefjorden.
