Lake Syväjärvi invites the whole family to relax while fishing and hiking. At the recreational fishing area, you can try to catch for example one of the pink-sided rainbow trouts that are lurking in the depths of the pond. The lake is surrounded by an easy-to-reach beach path with several campfire sites. Climbing the Syväjärvi bank is a bit of a challenge, but it rewards the hiker with its views. On the Ontojärvi Lake side the fine sands of Roukonpuro Creek invites for relaxation.
The Syväjärvi area is a perfect day trip and sightseeing destination for fishermen, families and groups. The area offers opportunities also for longer stays - comfortable accommodation is provided by rental cabins and a caravan area.

Syväjärvi shore trail and the campfire sites along it serve both fishermen and hikers. There are a total of 7.5 km of hiking trails in the area and, thanks to their easy access, they are also well suited for novice hikers. However, it is not possible to travel with prams or in a wheelchair.
Syväjärvi shore trail
The trail is an easy-to-navigate, in some places moderately demanding route that runs along the shores, rising in places to a pine ridge, and is marked with blue paint markings on the terrain.
At its narrowest point, the bridge over Lake Syväjärvi allows for different route options. If you do not want to climb Syväjärvensärkä bank, you can choose a lighter route option near the lake shore. The shorter tour is 1.6 km long. The longer Syväjärvi loop sums up to about 3.2 km.
Along the shore of lake Syväjärvi there are several campfire sites, as well as a bigger lean-to on the north shore of the lake. On the southern shore of Niskalampi, you will find a rental hut that is suitable for even larger groups. From Syvänjärvensärkä ridge you can admire the surrounding landscape.
To the north of Syväjärvensärkä is the watery Ison-Tuupanen bog. In the middle of it are two ponds, Kalaton and Umpilampi, which are not used for fishing.
You can circle the trail in both directions.
Public transport
Suhäjärvi can be reached by public transportation via the road Pohjoispuolentie (no. 900), Kuhmo - Sotkamo - Kajaani (only few shifts). More detailed information on bus schedules (www.matkahuolto.fi).
By road
The Syväjärvi recreational fishing area is located about 20 km northwest of the center of Kuhmo, close to the intersection of Pohjoispuolentie (road no. 900) and Hyrynsalmentie (road no. 904).
From Kuhmo, drive 19 km on Pohjoispuolentie (road no. 900) into the direction of Sotkamo, after which the signs "Syväjärvi" lead to your destination. From the road Pohjoispuolentie it is about 300 meters to Syväjärvi car park.
