It's nice at the beginning and at the end. In between there is a short dry spell. With a few steps you are in the Middle Ages and at the end in the middle of the vineyards of the Wachau.
From the old town of Dürnstein you can walk along a narrow rocky path or via the "easy variant" to the castle ruins, which were built in the middle of the 12th century. At the ruins we marvel at the complex that has been preserved from the Middle Ages and at the same time we indulge in the breathtaking view. From the ruin you continue up to the Starhembergwarte, which has been around since 1882. Another vantage point is the pulpit, a boulder in front of the Vogelberg. Also from the somewhat long high path to Weißenkirchen there are always beautiful views of the valley. Perseverance is rewarded when you turn into the Schildbachgraben at the end of the high path and there, at the transition from the forest to the vineyards, you come across a rustic refreshment point. After a little refreshment you can cover the last part of the way through the best vineyards in the Wachau. At the end of the day, you can feel really comfortable with a glass of wine from ground that you have walked over with a cozy Heuriger in Weißenkirchen.
Detour to the pulpit.

Safety informationSturdy shoes are required. In addition to the narrow, steep path to the ruin, there are 2 places on the exit into the Pfaffental where you can easily slip. In the Weitenberggraben, too, it becomes steep again.
