Along the Shady Hunter's Trail and the Sunny Northern Shore Around Lake Bohinj
Lake Bohinj is a tectonic and the largest natural lake in the Triglav National Park and in Slovenia. The basin of the lake was transformed by the Bohinj glacier. The main tributary to the lake is Savica which springs in the Triglav Lakes Valley. The water in the lake changes three times in a year. Jezernica is the small river flowing from the lake and is one of the shortest rivers in Slovenia. Below the confluence with the Mostnica River, the Mostnica and the Jezernica merge into the Sava Bohinjka River.
The Church of St John the Baptist is the most recognisable symbol of Bohinj. It was built before the year 1300 and is, from a stylistic point of view, the richest building in Bohinj.
During heavy rainfall, the Govic Waterfall occasionally bursts out from the rock above the northern shore of Lake Bohinj. The water rises vertically in the cave and falls with a roar into the channel below the wall. The path is impassable at that time. The entrance to the cave is only a few metres wide and runs down to the underground lake with a very oscillating surface. Usually, the waterfall can be seen for only a few hours.
